Bowel Management

Module Description

Bowel management is an important aspect when caring for residents in aged care as inadequate bowel function can be associated with an array of symptoms including cognitive effects.  This module explores how to confirm constipation, possible contributing factors and ways by which to optimise bowel management with both medications and other measures.  It also helps to determine the most appropriate medications to use, or avoid in particular circumstances, summarized in the ‘Flow Chart for Laxative Use in a Constipated Resident’.
