Part 2 of the high-risk medications module covers cytotoxics, opioids, psychotropics, S8s & S4Ds, NSAIDs and paracetamol. The importance of identifying cytotoxics and other relevant hazardous medications and the necessary practice points for management are highlighted. An overview of the key concerns and requirements for managing psychotropics is provided, including the need to understand why they are prescribed and continued, as well as managing chemical rstraints, and monitoring for adverse effects. In addition, the specific management of clozapine is summarised.
The legislative requirements and safe management principles for all S8s and S4Ds are highlighted. Opioids and their potential adverse effects are discussed, emphasizing the need for their regular review and secure management, together with considerations in relation to specific concerns with the use of hydromorphone and fentanyl.
