Updates to the Antimicrobial Stewardship Clinical Care Standard from Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care have been incorporated into this module, as well as the most recent data regarding antimicrobial use across Australia and Aged Care facilities from the AURA and AC NAPS reports. The global threat from Antimicrobial Resistance is explained as well as the importance of action at all levels of health care. The main areas of Antimicrobial Stewardship requiring improvement in Aged Care facilities are discussed together with case study examples and key management strategies. All staff are encouraged to be aware of strategies and practice points to promote Antimicrobial Stewardship and contribute to the safeguarding of antimicrobials for both current and future generations.
