Course Description and Application

Medication management in Residential Aged Care Facilities can be complex and therefore great emphasis is placed on ensuring there is ongoing training for registered nurses with the objective of providing RNs with updated clinical knowledge and better understanding of risk to ensure safe practice with medications. The RN workshop covers a total of 5 modules; 3 mandatory core modules plus 2 optional electives to choose from.

Modules:
3 Core Modules:
  • • Professional Practice and Legislation for Registered Nurses
  • • Pharmacology in the Elderly
  • • Psychotropic Medications and Chemical Restraint
Electives (to select 2 modules):
  • • Pain in the Elderly
  • • Diabetes and Insulin
  • • Warfarin and Other Anticoagulants
  • • S8 Medication Management
  • • Handling and Administration of Cytotoxic and Hazardous Medications
  • • Alteration of Oral Dosage Forms
  • • Polypharmacy

You have access to the course materials for the specified period. This is 28 days.

Participants will be required to complete an assessment component following the workshop and achieve 75% or more for successful completion.

Upon completion participants are able to generate Certificate of Completion and gain 5 CPD points.
